Was disappointed that there was no health club and that it had closed in March 2008. We were mislead as another website listed that they did have health club facilities. Oh well, the hotel was great anyway and was given a nice big room and breakfast and the 1 free dinner which we took on New Years Eve was lovely.
Top Tip
Lots of restaurants and bars close by. However as Edinburgh is hilly I wouldn't recommend it to disabled people

Very helpful & friendly staff. Great traditional decor. Ten minutes walk from Princes Street
Top Tip
Gentlemen have to wear jacket & ties for meals other than breakfast when smart casual clothes are allowed.
Try George Street. It runs parallel to Princes Street, is closer to the hotel, less tourists and better restaurants shops etc.

Unable to use restaurent for evening meal as men were required to wear a jacket. If this is so important then there should be more information about it in the details provided. We had to take room service which spoilt our experience of this hotel.

Lovely old building in a quiet location, a shortish walk to Princes Street, Castle, etc. Our room was nice, breakfast was below average which was disappointing. We asked for a room on a higher floor in the hope of escaping any of the Friday/Saturday night noise that Edinburgh can be famous for. Sadly, the hotel had what appeared to be a ladies only function on the Saturday evening and we were kept awake until gone 02.00am by people leaving and screaming at each other in the street below!! It's a great location though and comfortable enough.
