Quite basic and obviously a long standing hotel that could do with a bit of an upgrade. Cleanliness very good but room old fashioned and quite small. Breakfast extensive and reception staff very helpfull. Pleasant stay and location couldnt have been better but whole hotel in need of refurbishment.

Although room gave an excellent view of the gardens Castle and Princess Street, the traffic and party noise detracted from the experience

This hotel is crying out for a facelift....my room was fine(if really small-single room) but the corridors are starting to look a bit shabby.
the food is by buffet and whilst ok it's not any more than this.
I dont think it represents any more than average value for the cost...but then that's Edinburgh for you.I stayed a week, half board, in a 4 star hotel in Malta recently for just over double what I paid here for one night's bed and breakfast. Not good enough ,Edinburgh.

overall location etc excellant. however in the resteraunt that night 2 of the staff had revolting body odour problems, so much so that we were sickened when they only passed the table, totally unacceptable.
